Glass-to-Metal Seals
INTA Technologies Corporation manufactures custom glass to metal assemblies primarily for feedthroughs. Glass seals are utilized in many custom applications especially for use in or around vacuum technology.

Mechanical, chemical, and physical characteristics of both the metal and glass need to be considered to ensure a robust seal.

Effective seals between glass and metal require that:
1. The glass shall ‘wet’ the metal layer and adhere to it (usually the formation of an oxide layer upon the metal surface is an essential factor of this condition).
2.The expansion of the glass must match that of the metal over a certain range of temperature. (There are some exceptions to this).
3.The metal should have no transformation points (a change of structural alignment) within the range of the glass-metal combination.
4.The glass must be capable of being reheated during working without bubbling and the metal must be degassed to ensure that it does not give off gasses during the sealing operation.

INTA's process produces an excellent, cost effective assembly in the proper application.
