How does INTA ensure quality?

INTA has a quality management system in place to ensure quality. We have frequent internal and annual external quality audits. INTA is ISO 9001:2008 Certified. INTA uses AQL practices. We take pictures, as necessary, at incoming and shipping. We inspect at incoming and final under magnification and using sophisticated instrumentation, as necessary, such as an XRF device. We provide CoC’s with all of our shipments. For further details or information regarding our quality program, please contact Quality Manager, George Baltazar gbaltazar@intatech.com

Which energy companies does INTA work with?

INTA does not publish a customer list. INTA currently works with several well-known alternative energy companies, including solar energy and fuel cells. INTA also machines components for the oil and gas industry including major Dow Jones companies. INTA provides feedthrus, connectors, metallized ceramic, brazing and assembly services for the drilling and exploration sectors. Many energy applications require tight tolerances, durability, strength, toughness in rugged environments, etc. INTA has developed processes that have proven very robust and durable in very harsh environments such as down-well. Many of INTA’s components and assemblies are rated up to 2000 deg F.

What specification is recommended for braze joints?

INTA recommends the MIL-B-7883B specification. Type I and Type II, Grade A and Grade B are good options. Contact Blake Kneedler, Mfg Engr, blake@intatech.com, to discuss your application. Depending on the exact requirements, Grade A or Grade B may be a better fit for the project. Type I and Grade A are generally more expensive. Type II and Grade B can be more economical but if the objects are very large, Type I may not be available. Type I is torch brazing, Type II is furnace brazing. Grade A describes critical joints, Grade B describes non-critical fittings.

Does INTA offer a warranty?

Yes, most products and services come with a thirty (30) day warranty.

What is the typical lead time?

It depends on the nature of the work. Lead times range from one (1) week and up. For metallization, assembly or brazing, expect a two (2) week lead time if the customer is supplying materials. If INTA supplies ceramic or machined components, add several weeks to the lead time. Each project is unique, contact our sales office for a specific lead time relating to your project sales@intatech.com

What about high temperature applications?

Most of INTA’s coatings and brazed assemblies are suitable for high temperature applications. Here are a list of high temperature applications and the max rated temperatures (reference only):

Copper braze – 1080 deg C

Silver braze – 960 deg C

CuSil braze – 780 deg C

Gold plating – 1050 deg C

Silver plating – 960 deg C

Platinum plating – 1750 deg C

Rhodium plating – 1950 deg C

Ceramics such as AlO, AlN and BeO are excellent choices for high temperature applications.

What about corrosive environments?

Many of the components INTA manufactures perform service in corrosive marine and chemical environments. Many coatings are effective in protecting components against corrosion such as rhodium, platinum, gold, silver and nickel. For silver, choose an anti-tarnish dip. For nickel, choose Ni-P for high corrosion resistance. A thicker coating and undercoating (up to one mil or so) may be desired under corrosive conditions.

How durable are INTA’s assemblies?

INTA has testing equipment and checks certain aspects of assemblies in order to perfect processes. Some of our assemblies are subjected to 200 pounds of sheer force during testing. Other assemblies endure 4500 psi of water pressure. Overall, INTA’s assemblies are very durable and have proven their strength over many years.

How reliable are components plated by INTA Technologies?

INTA has a rigorous inspection procedure and high training standards. We receive very few RMA’s and offer CoC’s standard with each shipment along with a 30 day guarantee in many cases.

When was INTA founded?

1978

Has INTA always been involved in surface engineering or was there another focus?

Always surface engineering.

How thick of a coating do I need for an electrode?

The answer depends on various factors such as substrate material selection, lifetime and coating material. Send project specifics to contact@intatech.com for assistance.

My component goes on an oil rig located in salt water, what can be done to protect the material?

Many of the components INTA manufactures perform service in corrosive marine and chemical environments. Consider rhodium, platinum, gold, silver and nickel coatings to protect your component. For silver, choose an anti-tarnish dip. For nickel, choose Ni-P for high corrosion resistance. A thicker coating and undercoating (up to one mil or so) may be desired under corrosive conditions. As you probably know, rhodium, platinum and gold are very expensive. Rhodium is the most costly followed by platinum and gold.

INTA has testing equipment and checks certain aspects of assemblies in order to perfect processes. Some of our brazed assemblies are subjected to 200 pounds of sheer force during testing. Other assemblies endure 4500 psi of water pressure. Overall, INTA’s assemblies are very durable and have proven their strength over many years. The peel strength of metallized ceramic is typically 10-15 lbs.

Does INTA sell feedthrus?

Yes, INTA manufactures feedthrus in-house. Most feedthrus are custom made-to-order assemblies containing 1 to 75 pins.

What about glass-to-metal seals?

INTA offers glass-to-metal seals for feedthrus. INTA also brazes windows to metal tubes. INTA does not work much with attaching fiber optics. INTA uses preformed glass beads to perform the seals and checks the hermeticity by means of an in-house Alcatel He leak checker. INTA seals customer supplied or in-house supplied material.

What type of connectors does INTA Technologies manufacture?

Mainly hermetic feedthrus (ceramic-to-metal and glass-to-metal).

What is meant by the term hermetic?

Completely air sealed. Click here for the full definition.
